Dongtan University celebrates 70th anniversary, prioritizing lifelong learning and AI cross-domain talent

<p>Dongtan University celebrates its 70th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the history of Taiwan's higher education. The university has expanded its campus activities, bringing together teachers, students, and alumni to witness this important achievement.</p>

<p>President Hsiao Ming-kuo highlighted that while industries evolve rapidly, universities cannot teach every skill required for future jobs beforehand. Instead, he advocates for cultivating the ability of "lifelong learning" and adapting to different sectors.</p>

<p>A key focus is on interdisciplinary collaboration. The university emphasizes that professionals in engineering, management, and design must understand each other's fields to effectively work together in industry.</p>

<p>As a concrete example, President Hsiao shared the story of student Yang Wei-jun, who is currently in his fourth year of the Mechanical Engineering major. Motivated by his desire to build a robot dog, he actively sought resources from the president. Initially facing funding challenges for an AI project, the university supported him with its own funds and provided necessary equipment, including high-performance GPUs.</p>

<p>The school also received a grant from the Ministry of Education for an "AI Cross-Domain Teaching Project," which has helped introduce new concepts to campus through partnerships between the Institute of Information Engineering and the School of Mechanical Engineering. The goal is to prepare students for the next 70 years without falling behind.</p>

<p>With approximately 40,000 graduates over its history, Dongtan University maintains a reputation for quality over quantity, focusing on producing valuable talents who contribute significantly to the Taiwanese economy.</p>

<p>The university plans to continue its journey into the next 70 years by establishing new laboratories and centers focused on semiconductor technology, unmanned vehicles, AI security, and energy sustainability.</p>
